Medizin-Transparent.at tests the truth of medical statements made in the media in order to support readers, patients, doctors, and decision-makers to critically analyze the information they encounter. This online service is a project of Cochrane Austria and the Department for Evidence-based Medicine and Evaluation.

The core of medizin-transparent.at is a free service in which readers can send in questions about medical information they hear in the media, in ads, or have found online. These questions are then researched by our scientific team, whose answer is then published on the website. The goal of this service is to save readers the time needed to do the research themselves as well as keeping readers up-to-date on the latest medical findings. We wish to allow patients to make informed decisions while delivering evidence-based information to the doctors treating them.

How does it work?

  • Readers can submit a question about medical claims made by the media through our  online form.
  • The Medizin-transparent.at team does research in medical databases to find scientific studies which address the reader’s question.
  • The results are summarized and published on our blog written for laypeople.

You find more information on Medizin-transparent.at in English on the Cochrane Community Blog.
